Semester och tid att fundera, till exempel på gatufoto. Hur förbaskat svårt det är att få till riktigt bra gatufoto – street photography. Tycker inte att jag har en enda riktigt, riktigt bra. Än!

Hittade en text jag hittat på någon sajt när jag studerade gatufoto som intensivast.
”It took root in New York in the 60s and 70s with compelling images of street life that captured the heart of the city. But anxieties about privacy, terrorism, and paedophilia have conspired to make the art of street photography ever more difficult.”
Håller väl inte riktigt med om att det ”took root in New York in the 60s and 70s”. Tycker det startade tidigare, redan efter andra världskriget, med fotografer som Lisette Model, Louis Faurer, Ted Croner och William Klein med flera. ”Street seen” är en bra bok om denna period.
”You are walking out into the world to see what happens. There’s no agenda,” says Matt Stuart. But with photography, there is always an agenda. The lure of street photography is more likely connected to its democratic thrust, and to the – usually mistaken – belief that it is the one kind of photography we can all do.
The evidence would suggest otherwise. ”You are looking for that brilliant moment that 99% of the time you don’t get,” says Stuart, ”That is exactly why it is both the most accessible and the most difficult kind of photography.”

Min erfarenhet är att folk har en j-a koll på dig och din kamera. Eller är det bara inbillning, de kanske bara kollar på dig som de kollar på varje människa de möter? Läser på bland annat Fotosidan att flera andra gatufotografer har gjort liknande erfarenheter: att folk har för sig att jag som fotograf måste fråga först. Men frågar jag först är det inte längre gatufoto, enligt min mening. Och att det inte är tillåtet att plåta folk på gatan.
